More bad news
The NICU staff believes her intestine are not in good shape. The next few weeks will tell us more. She may also need a blood transfusion. Her monitor alarms have been going off quite a bit due to poor respiration. She is clearly in a lot of pain. They administered morphine.
I took time out this afternoon to be with my daughter Ava while Ashley slept. It's been rough on her to not have mom and dad around at night. I elected to stay at the hospital again tonight so I can be in the NICU the rest of the night. Ashley is there now while I type from our room. I just dropped Ava off with her grandma, so I needed a minute to collect my thoughts. Time to see how Emma and mom are doing.

aden was highly anemic at birth and stayed that way until he was off of TPN. his intestines were hardened at birth as well. this is just a bump in the road. you are going to get through this. there were many, many times that we didn't even know if aden would make it. these little ones are so strong. gather your strength and have faith. i know i can't make you feel any better, but try to keep your faith.

I have been reading from the side lines since you started blogging. My grandaughter was born 2.20.08 with Gastroshcissis so I am a bit ahead of you in the roller coaster ride you just got on. Hang in there, the ups and downs are intense, but these little ones are amazing. My Grandgaughters name is Saige, still calls the NICU home for today. Emma's situation sounds a bit similar. Saige had about 1/3 of her intestines removed due to the level of damage. After a few surgeries she is improving greatly and is taking food via tube, bottle and of course TPN. We are hoping she will be home in September. I will add Emma to my daily prayers and forward her situation to the prayer chains set in place for Saige. Dont forget to eat!!!! Emma needs you strong!
